The documentary Diaspora: A Portrait of the Pinoy Artist was a project done with the Philippie Embassy in Washington DC, who gave BrownHeritage permission to show the presentation.
It showed Filipino-American artists thoughts about their work whose roots were from another country and how they have adopted to another land. The documentary captures the basic meaning of diaspora, which originated from the Greek language, meaning "the scattering of seeds."
This referred to the forced or voluntary dispersal of members of an ethnic group to settle in another homeland. Filipino-Americans have the strength of their ethic identity to accompany their art.
Artists include writer Jon Pineda, the women poets of Balagtasan collective who appeared in the documentary Women with Words, poet F. Omar Telan, improviser Ryan Abenes, filmmaker Noel Izon, and one of the hottest bands in Washington DC, the Speaks.
